Eric Hoffman has been studying and teaching philosophy for more than 30 years. Always concerned to connect philosophy to other fields, to other practices and to ordinary life, he studied physics and mathematics as an undergraduate at MIT, and, received both his Ph.D. in Philosophy and his J.D. from University of Pennsylvania. His college courses on values, political philosophy, personal relationships, law, and human nature receive enthusiastic evaluations.

He served as the Executive Director of the American Philosophical Association, managing an national organization with 10,000 members, numerous publications and several annual meetings. In addition to his work as a college professor and administrator, Eric practiced employment law with a large Philadelphia law firm. He now practices part time with a small firm.

Since 1989, he has served as Coordinator and Assisting Conductor of the Essential Experience Workshop, an intensive, personal growth program, grounded eclectically in Existential, Stoic and other philosophical and psychological traditions. The workshop supports participants in gaining insight and making change in their lives.

His philosophical practice with individuals, groups and organizations is informed not only by his philosophical teaching and study and by his practical experience in law and non-profit management, but also by over a decade of experience in group facilitation and personal growth.

Eric is certified by the APPA in individual counseling, group facilitation and organizational consulting.
