Wanda's Background
Having raised a family of two sons, she pursued an outstanding
academic career, graduating with her PhD from the University
of Ottawa in 1998. After graduation, she trained in New
York to obtain a certificate in the emerging field of
Philosophical Practitioner in 1999. In 2000, she opened
Dawe Counselling Services and practiced for four years
as a Philosophical Counsellor from her office.
When the opportunity arose to own and operate Radiance
Hair Studio and Spa in Bay Roberts in May 2004, Dr. Dawe
saw an opening to put into practice what she believed.
She would not only be able to promote overall health and
well-being of the mind (as she does in her counselling
practice), she would be able to do the same for the body.
The location of the salon, at the edge of the environmentally
important Shearstown Estuary in Bay Roberts, added to
the appeal and made the business a perfect fit for her.
"Around the Bay"
Dr. Dawe lives with her husband, Eric, in Bay Roberts
in the Dawe family home which was built in the 1920s,
and has been carefully preserved. They love the peace
and security of living "around the bay" surrounded
by closely knit communities and living heritage.
Works Diligently
Never one to rest on her laurels, she continues to work
diligently in diverse fields of interest. She loves her
home and role in her husband's, sons' and grandsons' lives.
As a resident of a small community, she recognizes the
important role that volunteers have played and continue
to play in community life and development in rural parts
of Newfoundland and Labrador. She believes that persons
must give back as much as possible to their communities
in order to help them grow and thrive. In an area of Canada
first visited by Europeans as early as the 1500s, she
values community heritage and is committed to maintaining
the natural environment. As Past Chairperson of the EI
Appeals Board, she achieved an in-depth understanding
of the problems that many people encounter with the system,
and ensured that all stakeholders, especially EI claimants,
received a full and fair hearing. Through her involvement
with policy development and organization with the Liberal
Party of Canada, nationally and provincially, she has
sought to implement party lines which focus on issues
that her experiences have shown to be important. In total,
she values all that can be learned from experience - personally,
professionally, and politically.
