Kenneth K. Ayouby, D.Ed.
Kenneth K. Ayouby obtained his D.Ed. (Doctor Educationis)
from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University of Port
Elizabeth in educational (philosophical and sociological)
studies. His research analyzed the interaction of language,
power and education with the intersection of race, ethnicity
and social class in an ethnic minority community—taking
into account social constraints necessitated by racist/privilege-based
ideologies. His doctoral topic emerged from his experience
as a journalist, community activist, cross-cultural adviser
and teacher.
Kenneth also holds an Ed.S. (Curriculum and Instruction)
from Wayne State University, M.Ed. (TESOL) from University
of Tasmania, an M.P.S. in Intercultural Studies from the
University of New England, and an M.A. in Near Eastern
Languages/Cultures (Arabic studies specialization) from
Wayne State University.
Kenneth has held positions as Student Services Liaison,
teacher, Hearing Officer, and adviser to students, parents,
educational staff and other community stakeholders in
the public schools sector. In addition, Kenneth has taught
(and continues to teach) at the University of Michigan-Dearborn
(since 1994) as a Lecturer in the Department of Language,
Culture and Communication. Currently, he holds the position
of Administrative Hearing Officer and Ombudsperson with
his local school authority, performing dean of students’
functions, including student advising, multicultural awareness
consulting and conflict reduction activities, as well
as other educational management functions. Also, the National
Association of Hearing Officials accredits him as a Certified
Administrative Law Judge to conduct due process hearings.
Kenneth has strong interest in the practice of philosophical
counseling as pertaining to supporting students in their
academic careers, and in assisting them in making logical
and ethical choices as part of a process of values elucidation
and self-understanding. He works with students (and independently
with youth and adults) on matters related to identity
formation, individual responsibility, and personal growth,
utilizing an eclectic philosophical and sociological framework
that includes, but is not limited to, existentialism,
“choice theory”, personal subjectivity, “objective
truth” and theosophical inquiry among others. As
well, Kenneth works as an academic and life coach with
individuals seeking to develop their special potential
through structured exploration, assisting them in achieving
personal transformation by developing goals, and helping
them in attaining life/work balance to improve quality
of life, while seeking higher levels of individual performance.
Kenneth welcomes inquiries from (and discussion with)
intending seekers who want to work with him in the Detroit
metropolitan area, southeast Michigan and in Windsor,
Ontario. He is reachable by telephone at 313-624-9518.
